Risk Taking Lesson From Kenny Rogers’ “The Gambler”

In a recent discussion in my class about risk taking, one student talked about how a interview with a local bioentrepreneur impressed upon her about when to quit and when to let go. I recalled the words of the song from this Kenny Rogers song and felt that it summed up the essence of risk taking as a gamble… a calculated gamble.
> You got to know when to hold ’em, know when to fold ’em,
> Know when to walk away, know when to run.
> You never count your money when you’re sittin’ at the table,
> There’ll be time enough for countin’ when the dealin’s done.

Of course when I mentioned Kenny Rogers, the students’ first response was…. roast chicken?
