Smarter Conversations

Too often we complain that our conversations aren’t intellectual enough or not simulating. Perhaps one of the problems is the questions we kick off the conversations with. This TED article by Chris Colin & Rob Baedeker shares “How to turn Small Talk into Smart Conversations”.

Ask for Stories, not answersAs with the art of powerful questions, these conversational questions can help turn the conversation into something deeper. Here are a few conversational turners to consider;

Closed Questions Open Questions
How are you? What’s your story?
How was your day? What did you do today
Where are you from? What’s the strangest thing about where you gee up?
How was your weekend? What’s the best part of your weekend?
What line of work are you in? How’d you end up in your line of work?
